Mesothelioma-A Serious Form of Cancer

Posted by: Agendassos   in Useful Info

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer occurs in individuals who are exposed to asbestos. It is a serious cancer of the mesothelial membranes that surround many of the body’s vital organs. The mesothelial lining protects the lungs, heart and stomach by secreting a lubricating fluid that allows easy movement of these organs. Malignant cells develop in the mesothelial lining of these organs, divide without control, invade nearby tissues and organs and damage them. Different types of mesothelioma are pleural mesothelioma, peritoneal mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma and mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis testis.

The symptoms of mesothelioma include shortness of breath, pleuritic chest pain and weight loss. In some patients symptoms do not appear at its early stage. The disease is very difficult to diagnose. However it may be confirmed with a CT scan or an MRI or with biopsy where tissue sample of the tumor is examined. There is no cure for this disease. But chemotherapy, radiation therapy and sometimes surgery are performed. If you want to get more information relating to mesothelioma, please visit Mesothelioma-Data.com.
